About project
Delphi is a research group based out of Carnegie Mellon University dedicated to developing the theory and practice of epidemic tracking and forecasting. Pre-pandemic they worked mostly on influenza, dengue and norovirus; they’ve now picked up a focus on COVID. They procure unique data streams that reflect epidemic (or pandemic) activity, extract relevant indicators, and make these publicly and continuously available. They and others then use these indicators for nowcasting (situational awareness) and short-term forecasting.
The main goal of Delphi Research Group improving the world’s ability to deal with the next pandemic.

Qualifications and skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in UX/UI design, focusing on data visualization
- Proficiency in tools such as Sketch or Figma
- Strong understanding of data visualization techniques and best practices
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams, including researchers, statisticians, and developers
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field preferred
Responsibilities
- Organize and conduct user interviews with end-users, including statisticians, researchers, and public health professionals
- Gather insights into user requirements, preferences, and pain points related to data visualization
- Analyze data usage patterns and user feedback to inform design decisions
- Develop wireframes, prototypes, and mockups for data visualization interfaces
- Create user flows and information architectures to streamline data exploration and analysis
- Iterate on designs based on feedback and usability testing results
- Collaborate with data scientists and statisticians to understand the structure and complexity of datasets
- Design visualizations that effectively communicate key insights and trends in the data
- Ensure scalability and flexibility in visualizations to accommodate various data dimensions (e.g., age, gender, geography, time)
- Apply principles of human-centered design to create interfaces that prioritize user needs and usability
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusivity in design solutions
